KOHLER Dutchmaster in Midnight Floral Sink Emulates a Garden Within the Bathroom

KOHLER, Wis. – Nov. 9, 2017 – Kohler, a global leader in the design and manufacture of kitchen and bath products, captures the movement and beauty of florals in its newest pattern to join the brand’s globally-popular Artist Editions offering. Named for the painterly style that inspired the sink’s pattern, the new Dutchmaster collection explores dramatic botanicals in lush and moody hues that are sure to capture the eye of discerning consumers.

Bold floral patterns reside in fashion, textiles, and prints, but Kohler innovative and creative nature takes bold floral to a new level through this audacious visual within the unexpected context of a bathroom sink. Kohler’s history in decorated products is largely rooted in developing curious, culturally relevant patterns. This particular pattern takes inspiration from Dutch master paintings and the chiaroscuro technique of contrasted light and shade, combining live florals and artistic photography to create a composition unsurpassed in today’s market.

“We seized the opportunity to lead in the plumbing market with a bold, dramatic, and romantic floral that invites curiosity and demands attention,” states Nancy Yusko, design studio manager for Kohler. “Like the Dutch master painters of the 17th century, we wanted to create intrigue through dramatic lighting to evoke a sense of mystery. Today’s consumer is about profound individuality; they are committed to taking more creative risks with their personal style. With this bold statement piece, we are celebrating and encouraging that fearless tastemaker mentality which we see infiltrating our enlightened consumers.”

The Midnight Floral pattern was designed in collaboration with florography artist Ashley Woodson Bailey. Bailey has made her mark in various markets and industries through her stunning photography, wallpaper, textiles and fabrics. The Midnight Floral pattern features a moody arrangement of hellebores, fritillaries, ranunculus, and sweet pea flowers against an onyx backdrop. A delicate butterfly enhances the illusion of movement and motion within the design. The rich, textural colors of these stunning flora offers a glimpse into a lavish garden.

“When I work with flowers, I live with them. I learn their personas, I look at color palettes and how colors play – the textures and movements all play off of each other in really beautiful ways,” says Bailey. “Kohler had the vision for the pattern, and I helped them bring that to life through my understanding of floral varietals and arrangements.”

The Midnight Floral pattern from the new Dutchmaster Collection is available on Kohler’s popular Carillon round and rectangle bathroom sinks. Carillon, named for carillon tower bells, boasts demure, graceful lines that allude to the “lift” experienced in pottery when the potter achieves the perfect pitch and speed to lift the clay and create its form.
